NERJA OLD TOWN

This charming little town lies approximately 50 km northeast of Malaga and is situated on a rocky plateau overlooking the sea. It is one of the most beautiful holiday resorts on the Costa del Sol. In the typical Andalusian village square, with its numerous bars, cafés, and restaurants, you can enjoy the charm of a Spanish town alongside the locals.

The old town of Nerja is captivating due to its typical whitewashed houses combined with historical architecture.
In the narrow streets of this coastal town, magnificent buildings from various cultural backgrounds stand side by side, giving the former fishing village its Andalusian charm. A peek into the courtyards is particularly worthwhile, where traditional buildings with lovingly crafted details are hidden away. The old town is almost entirely car-free, allowing for relaxed strolling. A walk through the historic center reveals numerous small shops and stores selling handcrafted items and regional products. Spanish olive oil and sweet Moscatel wine are especially recommended. Cafés, bars, and restaurants offer refreshments and local cuisine. A particular specialty is the fried fish served in the bars and fishmongers.

At the heart of the town is the pilgrimage chapel of Nerja's patron saint, Nuestra Señora de las Augustinas. It is a magnificent example of 16th-century architecture. The interior frescoes, which adorn the dome, are a masterpiece of that era. Nerja's main street begins in the heart of the old town and leads uninterrupted to the Mediterranean Sea, where, among the coastal buildings, the Torre de Marco immediately catches the eye, offering a magnificent view of the Andalusian panorama.
